3. Take vitamins C and E supplements

When taken together, these two vitamins might slow the progression of Alzheimer's, according to a study at John Hopkins University. This is in addition to numerous other health benefits of vitamins C and E.

4. Take multivitamin supplements daily

Multivitamin supplements provide adequate levels of folic acid and other B vitamins, in amongst many other vitamins and minerals. B vitamins help the body reduce levels of homocysteine amino acid. This amino acid is formed by the breakdown of animal protein. Elevated levels of homocysteine in the bloodstream have been linked with increased risk of Alzheimer's disease.

5. Use spices in your cooking

Health spices such as turmeric, ginger and red peppers can add zing to your meals. They're also good natural anti-inflammatories.

6. Include Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet

Health value of Omega oils to your heart and brain is well known. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in wild Alaskan salmon, sardines, freshly-ground flaxseed and walnuts.

7. Eat fresh organic fruit and vegetables

Incorporating fresh fruit and vegetables in your meals will give you plenty of health value, great taste, variety and above all keep your brain healthy. Fruit and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals.

8. Reduce intake of polyunsaturated vegetable oils

Sunflower, corn and safflower oils are all polyunsaturated oils. Replace them instead with high-quality extra-virgin olive oil, which contains monosaturated fats, most notably oleic acid. This Omega-9 fatty acid has blood pressure reducing effect.
